A multi-media art installation

In collaboration with computer scientist Karun Matharu and The Essex Steamettes

SCI-FICTION[S] | SIGNIFICANT SUPERORGANISMS | A DIGITAL HIVE

Eighty million years ago the matriarchal honeybee evolved into a superorganism. Working as a collective, it developed social immunity strategies within the hive to repel viruses and other unwelcome predators. 

By building her own superorganism: an interactive immersive installation that mimics the honeybee hive via a more-than-human fusion of robots, bees and humans, combining new technologies, nature and digital arts, artist/beekeeper Lily Hunter Green and her collaborators explore what humans can learn from the bees in the face of a global pandemic.

SHE HEALS forms part of Lily Hunter Green’s ongoing multi-dimensional Sci-Art project: BEE COMPOSED LIVE (2014 – 2021), an interdisciplinary creative hivemind which brings artists, musicians, coders, ecologists and scientists together to raise awareness of the rapid decline of the honeybee globally, and with that, the impact on human communities.

SHE HEALS has been developed in collaboration with Computer Scientist Karun Matharu and Coders The Essex Steamettes. Additional artistic support has been provided by Documentary Maker Zoe Coldham and 3D illustrator Jack Crosby. 

Arts Council England, Old Waterworks, Southend Tech and Essex Book Festival have all supported this project.
