Bee Composed

A few months ago, prompted by the news of the devastating decline in the bee population, I devised a new project ‘Bee Composed’.

‘Bee Composed’ involves transforming a piano into a working bee-hive with an apiarist and a wood-sculptor. Once the bees are settled in their new home, I will install audio visual recording equipment into the body of the piano to capture the harmonics of the bees interacting with the piano strings and live footage of the hive that will feed into a link on my website – along the lines of the BBC’s ‘Spring Watch’.

(coming soon) I will then ‘harvest’ these recordings and use them to create a new EP, installation and exhibition. I will also be running workshops with local schoolchildren to raise awareness of the threat to the bees – and to us – if we don’t do something to stop their decline. Bee Composed is being exhibited at Snape Maltings on the Henry Moore Lawn as part of SNAP Aldeburgh in June.
